Original description:Peter Callas has forged a unique style over the last 50 years earning him a worldwide reputation for both his pioneering work and his distinctive style in clay. At this 2-day hybrid hands-on and virtual demo workshop he will emphasize the aesthetic challenges and approaches to one of kind forms on and off the wheel. This weekend will be an inspirational workshop open to all level that offers participants new and exciting ways to handle clay through his spirited, poetic methodology. About the artist:

  1. 1973. Received B.F.A. at The University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, WA

  2. 1974 Artist residency at the Archie Bray Foundation, Helena, MT.

  3. 1974 Two months in Japan @ 23 years old. traveling 2500 miles.

  4. I helped build an Anagama kiln in Shigaraki at Rakusai's studio

  5. 1974 Returning to the New York area I constructed the first U.S Anagama kiln in 1976 near Piermont, NY.

  6. 1979Callas/Voulkos began collaborating in Piermont, N.Y. (lasted 23 years)

  7. 1978-1981 First studio an old Silk Mill Factory close to the kiln.

  8. 1982-1987 I moved into an 18,000 sq.’ commercial building in Harrison, New Jersey.

  9. 1987 Settled in Belvidere, New Jersey. Renovated a 200 year old Moravian farmhouse and barn for studio.

  10. 1987 Built the Belvidere Anagama. In use after 32 years. Fired over 100 times.

  11. 1978-2020  Exhibited worldwide

  12. 2003 30 year show Dai Ichi Gallery, NYC

  13. 2007 National Museum tour

  14. 2008 Grounds for Sculpture Exhibition.

  15. 2018 Pollack/Krasner Foundation Grant.

  16. 2018 Wingate Foundation grant

  17. 2021 Upcoming museum tour and retrospective book celebrating 50 years, opening at AMOCA in February.

  18. Collected in 30 museums worldwide including Metropolitan Museum of Art, Yale Art Museum Serves, Paris and the V & A London.
