Saratoga Clay Arts Center’s Schacht Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition featuring the sculptural works and expressive drawings of Michigan artist Mark Chatterley, May 1 through June 12th, with an opening reception on Saturday May 1 from 5-7pm.
About his work and this exhibition, Mark Chatterley states, “We all are experiencing the Coronavirus. Most are wearing masks and practicing social distancing. But I also experienced open heart surgery and having a near death experience. It just sort of goes with 2020.
“Having not been able to go into the clay studio for several months, I have spent my time drawing, escaping in drips of ink. I have fun morphing the spots into organic forms that have a somewhat human quality to them. These drawings are starting points for my new body of clay work. I am asking questions about how I can make a massive form that is comprised of individuals in an organic embrace.”
