Thaddeus Erdahl Workshop

Thaddeus Erdahl is coming to town!

He has exhibited his sculptures and presented workshops regionally and nationally throughout the United States. In 2009, he was selected as one of four artists-in-residents at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tenn., for an 11-month residency program. Erdahl recently moved to Princeton, N.J., to pursue his studio art career. He is currently the visiting artist at Princeton Day School, where he works in the Ceramics Studio.
A native of La Porte City, Iowa, Erdahl earned his B.A. in art education and B.F.A. in ceramics from the University of Northern Iowa before receiving his M.F.A. in ceramics from the University of Florida. Throughout his studies, Erdahl actively practiced and taught a variety of art media including ceramics, drawing, assemblage, sculpture, painting and graphic design.
"Ceramic sculpture and portraiture, in particular, are forms of a visual narration that I use to satisfy my urge for documenting what I see in human nature," Erdahl said. "Evocative of well-loved toys and obsolete artifacts, I use the implied history of these objects to encourage the viewer to disconnect from the present situation and conjure their own individual narratives from my sculptures."

This workshop was held on October 19 - 21, 2012.
There were 12 participants.

Steven Hill Participatory Workshop - Pouring Vessels & Cups / Atmospheric Effects for Electric Firing

Steven Hill is BACK! This time for a full 6 day participatory workshop at the center. In this workshop, working along with Steven, you will throw and alter pitchers and mugs and work with decorative slip. He will discuss his philosophy on making pottery, while throwing, assembling and decorating his forms and will demostrate the techniques he's well known for.  The focus of this workshop will be on spouts, handles, form, surface and the relationship of all these elements. He will also demonstrate and explain the glazing techniques he uses to achieve the kind of richness and surface variation in electric kiln firings that potters have come to associate with fuel burning kilns and reduction firing. Both basic techniques of spraying and the more advanced theories of layering and blending glazes will be addressed in the workshop.

In addition, Steven and his friend John Townley are bringing their guitars and fun evenings will be spent around the fire pit. Bring your instrument and join in the fun!
